What is peace? For me, it’s NOT the absence of worry or doubts or chaos. Rather, it’s being able to center myself, accept my circumstances, and own my truth in spite of all that.

It’s taking a step back from my whirring brain 🧠 to laugh at myself and help others embrace their silly sides without fear of being judged. •
It’s falling down and embracing a lower perspective (and laughing about it too!). •
It’s getting locked out at 2am  and reframing it as an opportunity to cross off a summer bucket list item I wouldn’t do otherwise (watching the sun come up on our roofdeck)  •
It’s the faith to know that I’ll get through whatever life throws my way—whether it’s an allergic reaction or a delayed flight ️ •

she works through her fears to reach the top of the wall and down climb until she lands full of pride and a smile,
she inspires me,
we have conversations on days when I’m struggling mentally or emotionally to throw myself into a problem 
she says “mama, sometimes you just have to choose to pretend like you aren’t afraid”.
and in the spirit of owning my anxiety,
I’m gonna be honest with ya’ll,
I don’t want to pretend that I’m not afraid,
I tend to not push myself 
due to the fact that I know it’s okay to feel nervous and afraid,
and there are some days when that’s what I need, I walk into the gym and I just feel it in my body,
nope not today,
today my body doesn’t want to be here,
the next day I watch her in totally awe,
I want to be more like her,
I want to reach without knowing where my feet are going to go,
and I want to grab on and swing up because I trust my fingers and arms that much,
the next time I reach for a crimp or a jug, or a slopper,
and I feel totally afraid,
totally unsure,
totally insecure,
worried,
doubtful of my ability,
I’ll practice owning it, 
and not letting it define me,
letting it remind me to try
remind me to throw my whole weight in,
if I say to myself “no, I don’t want to.”
I change it to “yes, I can do this.”
because what’s the worst that can happen?
I fall.
and I get back up again.

Letting go is a daily practice. We need to work on it and work on it and work on it and work on it.

We need to work on the letting the stuff go as often as it comes up.

WHEN what you want to let go of shows up that's when the work begins for you. That work is also the most beautiful work we can do. That work is where our real self-growth lays.

It's waiting for us!

Let me tell you a quick story ... I really hurt my foot hiking in Whistler last Sunday. After 4 days of standing and meeting people from all over the world as I shared my soon-to-launch-book 'Own Your Anxiety' at Wanderlust Festival (which people loved!), two of my best buddies wanted to go on this epic hike.

My body was tired and while I was craving some relaxation and rest, I was also craving bonding with my friends and being out in nature. So I went on the hike. The destination (is there really ever a destination?) in the hike is to arrive at this pristine lake surrounded by powerful pine trees and majestic snow-capped mountains. There sits a log, loosely connected to the shoreline and partially submerged in the cold water, which you can very carefully (it requires tremendous balance) walk about 30 feet onto and then jump off into the lake.

After getting to the end of it and then waiting for my friend to join me, my feet became a numb from the cool temperature of the water. At this point I fell off of the log and awkwardly hit my right foot on as I fell into the water.

At Vancouver airport I realized how bad it was and needed to get a wheelchair because putting weight on it sent pains through my entire body. All week it has been bad.

Now we arrive to this picture. I've had plans to come to Montreal and have a bonding weekend with my from NYC as we go to a music festival together (I LOVE to dance). But the Universe has a completely different plan for me.

And, I am just letting go of all the expectations and plans I had put on this weekend, instead accepting what is and making the best of reality.

This rule of life shows up in many ways. How doesn't matter. What matters is committing to the practice of letting go.

 I think one of the hardest parts of experiencing panic attacks and the after math is the way it's affected me as a Mom.
.
Today Sienna told a friend that I was sick and needed to relax, take my pills, and drink water. Initially I giggled of course but then felt sad. I felt guilty that she repeated what I've told her too many times this month. I've had to explain to them why I can't take them to the beach like we had planned, to Storybook Gardens, the riverbank, or all the many other things we had looked forward to doing this summer.
.
My sadness turned to guilt, and then to really intense irritability to the point where I needed a time out. I had a moment to myself and really focused on my breathing and tried to not worry about the what if's and the things I felt I was missing out on.
.
I remembered what summers were like for me as a kid, the best part was just getting to play outside all day, eating watermelon, running around in a sprinkler. 
.
I personally tend to focus so much on letting my kids have these incredible experiences at all of these special places, losing sight of the fact that they're content with simplicity and when I'm giving them love & attention.
.
So after a good cry, we ventured out and exercised our poor athletic skills playing volleyball and soccer.

Behind every creator who gave something of themselves for the greater good is a human who said I will push through the challenges.

Someone who thought I will not give up because what I’m creating is going to help a lot of people.

A person who believed so deeply that they were out here to serve.

Behind these eyes is total exhaustion and inspiration. 4 days straight, sharing my soon-to-launch book with thousands of people hoping to touch even one.

I was the first to open my booth each morning, I thought, hey, even if one person needs to see the Own Your Anxiety message then I better be there to share it.

It was raining and cold the first two mornings I didn’t pack for these elements, so wrapped in a blanket and beenie (toque) I shared with anyone who wanted to listen why anxiety is our secret edge and that freedom from running from it awaits all who are ready to honestly explore it.

When the sun became scorching for the last two days I asked the vendor beside me to watch my booth for me for a few minutes so I could run to find sunscreen- the sun and the sweat couldn’t stop the OYA Movement from spreading.

Don’t let the glossy cover, big smile, and travel pics from all over fool you - I have given my all to this chapter of my life. I guess you could say that I’ve given my all to you. Because I did it for you.

A nice man on my flight just opened up to me about his anxiety after seeing my hoodie- do you think I want to wear this hoodie again? I wear these words for him too.

I once suffered though my anxiety silently. I am committed to making sure that nobody else has to again.

I just finished reading this book by @julianbrass #ownyouranxiety 
I met him at #MYF in July. As I walked up to him and his display of books, I read the title. I was immediately not interested as I did not consider myself to have any type of anxiety but my friend was interested so I listened to this passionate young man bring his book to life as he talked about it.  I was then intrigued and wanted to learn more. Let me tell you, this book is for everyone! It’s such a simple read with powerful information.  Made me realize that we all live with anxiety. I am so happy I stopped to listen. It has changed my life!

I can’t even describe in words how incredible I feel after an amazing yoga session.  Hot yoga especially. It literally helps me re-ground myself and focus on where my fucks should be given. My intention for class today was to be ok with being unapologetically me. Something I heard a while ago that has completely resonated with me is that it’s none of my fucking business what somebody else thinks of me. #lifechanging So BE UNAPOLOGETICALLY YOU!!! .

Instead, “thrive” with anxiety, “elevated” because of my anxiety, “mindful” thanks to my anxiety, “energized” by my anxiety, “self-aware” since my anxiety ... THIS is the realest form of self-love. Loving yourself by choosing what language you’re going to use to communicate with yourself is true love.

Book Review! Own Your Anxiety by Julian Brass comes out on September 17! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Are you feeling anxious, lonely, depressed, overwhelmed, or out-of-control? This book has 99 ways to help you overcome these feelings and use your anxiety to your advantage. Tips like “Breathe” and “Limit Social Media” may sound familiar, but anxiety coach and author Julian Brass gives you actionable steps to help you follow through with each tip. The most impactful tip for me was, “Know You’re Not Saving the World.” The author asks, “Even if your work is saving the world, is it worth losing yourself in the process?” As someone that cares deeply about social issues and works for a non-profit, I have to remember to unplug and take care of myself so that I can recharge and be better equipped to do my job and help others.

This book was easy to read and enjoyable. The author incorporated his own story to show that it is possible to own your anxiety and not just cope, but thrive. Sometimes self-help or self-improvement books can feel preachy or unrealistic, but the writing felt authentic. I started reading the book in a doctor’s office waiting room and the first chapter (especially NTB or Nose-to-Belly breathing) helped to calm my anxiety. 3 years ago I was invited to join the Wanderlust family and give my first keynote at their festival.

Feedback was strong and I was invited back several times. This has been one of the highlights of my speaking and teaching career.

What’s happening this year is totally different. It’s a non-stop effort to prep for ... AND I could not be more grateful and PUMPED for it.

The past week has been one of reflection. Many obstacles were thrown at us this week and it's been a bit of an emotional rollercoaster to say the least. In these moments, I make time for me, I meditate, walk, sing, cry, write, whatever it is my mind feels will make a difference. But more importantly, I do what it takes to make me heal, in my way.
The most important thing you can do, is to always do you. Because no one knows you better.

Now I jog 3 times a week, lost 30 lbs., got a new job, booked comedy gigs all over the city and feel the happiest I’ve felt in 10 years. Clearly that was good advice. #ilovemynewlife
